The guy I sub to told me today that the shops got a job for him with underfloor heating under chipboard and that the gripper needs to be glued down. That doesn't sound right to me but I've never done a job with underfloor heating under chipboard, so is glueing the way to do it? I thought that when the carpet puts tension on the gripper it would/could rip the top of the chipboard resulting in a failed installation. Would the glue even adhere properly with the waxs in the board?

If it's standard flooring grade chipboard over the underfloor heating I don't see why it can't just be nailed as normal seen as the nails don't go all the way through the board.

Any advice gents on the correct way to prep a job like that?

Chipboard will be 18-22mm ring shanks will be fine check with who even put the chipboard down
I don't think you would stick very well to chipboard as it has a waxy coating
I've nailed plenty but check with builder/customer
    I deffo wouldnt stick it

ive plyed over plenty ufh below chipboard with 22mm nails so you will be fine with gripper, unless of course the builder has rebated the chipboard or used less than he standard thickness, so double check with them first but id say your fine.

What about just double sticking the carpet....no nailing involved and absolutely no risk!

Technics 5 & 6. Double stick u/l, not the cheapest products by any means and not the most sympathetic towards the carpet but it does satisfy a low tog value.

Thanks guys, I figured that would be the case but I thought I'd better check to be sure. The customer got back and it's 22mm board, so all is good, we'll gripper as normal.
