I want to re-tile my porch floor, it's around 1.5m by 1.5m on the corner of the house, though fully enclosed and only just above level with the outside (about 1 inch up). Water ingress from outside is not a problem, but it is a '60s built property and there is a bit of damp coming up through the floor - which I am assuming is DPC failure or similar. I will take up the old tiles before I start, they are around a couple of cm thick and concreted down as far as I can tell. But I'd rather not have to dig down further to put in a dpc and concrete (though I will if you tell me it is best!). Can any of you kind chaps offer any advice/solutions as to the best was to proceed especially in terms of putting some form of damp proofing down before I get to putting the new tiles down. thanks in advance for any help. pwf
Technically speaking its a dig it up, dpc then screed it job, although there are a couple of liquid dpm products that say they can go down with no mechanical dpm in place. edit: do you mean ceramics going back down after? didnt think they were affected by moisture
thanks - had this feeling that is what I'd be told, but such is life. thanks anyway. Lady of the house not decided on finish yet, but I suspect some form of ceramic. Just don't want it damp underneath as door mats sit on top and don't want it to smell damp etc thanks again pwf
Wes thanks very much, that is very helpful. I'll investigate local suppliers and get on with it! Thanks again pwf
