    Hi All

    Your thoughts please.......

I have a customer who has a 13m long landing, however for economy it would be great to put an end on end join in the middle of the landing. I'm aware that joins in sisal are not great, however I've never had a job where an end on end sisal join had been needed. Any ideas/tips on how to make this look the best it can be??
We will be double sticking (tackifier/F3) onto a contract PU and gripper...its just the join I'm concerned about!

    Thanks Guys

Personally I'd be fitting on crumb rubber not and never a pu underlay for sisal. Good luck with an on end join, can't you go across the landing and join on the widths ??

Side joins are ok . Anti fray spray, seam sealer and away you go. !!:p

If it has to be run that way, order the piece for the landing as a rug then cut the binding off !! Its what I do with Crucial Trading. Works out more cost effective.

Thanks for the responses......I hate having to sell sisal anyway, but hey ho! The landing runs for nearly 13 meters and the stairs are parallel meaning the sisal can only be fitted in 1 direction. Its just horrendously wasteful...13 x 4m with around 30% waste! If we put a put join in we can use 8.5 x 4m! The end on end join worries me because its going to be a dogs breakfast no matter what! Think I might insist on a wooden threshold to break up the sisal! or see if hes happy to pay for 20SqM of waste!!
    Thanks again....

You have got to love a bit of naturals !! Like I said cost it up as a rug for the landing then a cut to do the stairs.

that type of join in sisal is only going to look sh@t . customer wont be happy , you will have a problem in the end
my advice is to walk away , some times its the best policy

TBH I agree....Ive walked away from sisals before, when customers have bad ideas (sisal with joins in a restaurant). This guy is more open to whats achievable with the product.

depends on which sisal, either way its not the best to join. PVA adhesive is great tho. Make sure you get a clear drying pva (NOT flooring grade pva! as it dries white)

Depending on whih sisal you can remove 1/2" of backing and weave back in. Lot of work to be fair to get a good join, personally my labour charge will be more that the waste your trying to save.
