We used to do loads of tight scratch coats years ago on site. Usually over decent subfloors , big areas where carpet tiles or fiber bonded was to be laid. Used to do tight coats just to take out any pits or tiny holes etc.. In subfloor , and if your laying c/tiles usually the cheaper option was to do this. No point doing a 3mm coat.
My scratch was for needle punch, bloody stuff. the work I do for a Uni insist on 3mm coat whether its carpet tiles or sheet carpet. They pay so I say yay!
I used to work at a Carpet shop in my home town and the lvt fitter there (and I say that loosely) used to scratch coat before fitting lvts.
omg i normally say no to scratch coats as i believe manufacturer will not guarantee however the floor is smooth and is carpet tiles could go direct to the floor really ...
I’ve done probably 50,000sqm + scratch coat across the UK. Using a sanding machine and feather for any imperfections and there you go. Two coats of p51 and your ready mate. Scratch coat is not easy, you can’t put the pressure on trowel , otherwise youll get waves throughout the plot and you will have to use feather which is extra time, money etc.
