My looselay job speck has changed AGAIN ! No longer going forbo quick fit or straight on the chipboard. I haven't made a sight visit yet but as I understand it goes like this: Some kind of sound proofing Then Chip board Then its getting screeded by the builder ? I know ! Then Regupol is being glued to the screed by the builder ? (I am taking no responsibility for any sub floor prep ) Then the Karndean LOOSELAY is to be tackified on top of the Regupol ? I think I need a reply from Matt on this one !
In 25 years, i have worked for 100`s of main contractors. In all that time, I have probably come across 2 or maybe 3 who could prep a floor, the way i wanted it. Sounds like a refurbadeck type of system. They do work, I have done a fair few. Your main contractor should regupol, chipboard, then leave the rest to you. Otherwise, it will be a more than likely be a nightmare. If you lay on top of there prep, really, your saying you accept it, as fit for purpose. Try and talk him into letting you have the whole package !
I agree mate but this project is being run by several architects & designers who are click happy on the web & a building contractor that seems like a Yes man ! I'm not happy with builders screeding at all especially direct on chip board & the Regupol has to be rollered when glued which I'm 100% sure they do not have a roller ! I'm visiting the site on Wednesday & will be making myself very clear on what I want. It seems sound proofing is the big issue but if they haven't sound proofed the walls & the rest of the building as much then sound can still travel ? I'm getting sick of the phone calls & the change of speck & prices so if the project wasn't so big Id tell them where to go ! Builders prepping a floor ? Yeah right The whole system sounds well dodgy to me & as you can probably tell I'm not happy !
The soundproofing will be a big issue. If the building fails the sound test, it`s everything up and start again. I have fitted a whole block (50 flat`s) which completed, ready to move in. Failed the sound test, and had to regupol, and new floors throughout. Some were above a car park ????!!!???
I love Regupol, not sure about sticking gripper to it though. I guess it will pull the surface off along with the gripper if you stretch a carpet on it.
Thats what I was thinking ! It should be used as the under lay rather than every thing on top ! These people are doing my head in now ?
lol, sounds a great job. Well its destining to fail. You cant put smoothing compound over chipboard unless plywood down first and im sure you cant fit a LVT on top of it. Why cant the sound insulation go down first, then chipboard, plywood and then flooring?
Why are they screeding it? as in a self smoothing screed or builders screed, if builders screed why bother unless its for a height issue and if its a self smoothing screed then why are builders doing this anyway? In my opinion surely it should just be chipboard ply feather regupol then fit on top of regupol, not sure why there is screed involved at all unless its a fibre on top of the ply.
My thoughts exactly about screeding it ! There is already sound proofing under the chip board & they said it can't be punched at all ! Neil Andrews from Karndean said looselay hasn't been tested on Regupol but in his opinion it would be best tackified ! The chip board has been laid badly & not very flat so I believe this is the reason the builders want to srceed it but I've said from the start it needs plylined but they won't have it & they'll take responsibility for the prep They want me to lay the Karndean only & carpets but this is another issue as they want it fitted on top of the Regupol with grips glued on top ? What a load of b*****ks eh ?
I am as confused as you but I'm involved through the interior design part of it not the construction & the builders seem to be taking orders from the architects who semm to like pointless over kill & think there being clever Which there not !
Can you not just stick the carpets and do away with the grippers or at least the stretching on to them
It seems as if the designer or architect has the drawings up the wrong way, We are doing a 1400m2 job at the moment just for the acoustic propeties they are laying 6mm regepul, then 35mm K Screed, then 28 mm danskin soundeck(18mm chipboard with 10mm cosy underlay stuck on it) then a 10mm flaking strip around the edge. I have told them they need something between the chipboard and wood so will be putting a 4mm foam and 20 mm engineered wood, Anybody whose good at chipboard, and engineered in the London area give me a shout, starts end of next week, five weeks, 10x 50m2 bedroom suites on 3 floors Full building site job, CSCS
Now I know what they have done and they are trying to get out of a hole, they have laid something like we are doing, danskin chipboard with foam underlay, but they probably laid it on an uneven concrete slab, rather than a screed, now they have realised its not in tolerance, the wan to screed over the top as they have already paid for the acoustic chipboard, Sometimes you just have to walk away, this sounds like one of those times
Don't laugh ? I'm going ahead with this job on Monday but after much deliberation (telling them politely there idiots) & them actually discussing the project properly with Regupol Things have change for the better & the job now goes like this ! The screeding has been jacked altogether Lol A higher DB rated regupol is being layed on the chip board Then the whole lot plyed over the top I'm still not doing the Regupol or the ply so how there guna fix it I don't know but I believe Regupol have advised them So Its a case of me laying the Karndean looselay LOOSE & the carpets will be fitted as normal on top of the reg & ply Result See you can get blood for a stone !
