I really don't get why people cant see a carpet is going to be to small for a room. I turned up to a job today that was supposed to be a prepped room and just the carpet to fit, this is what I found It was 1.3m short how the hell could they think it would fit. Ended up doing a 5m join but charged a extra £30 so for doing it
Bloody annoying eh? It's not just the hassle either, its the extra time taken which has a knock on effect for the next job you planned. I don't mind using customer sizes for approximate pricing but always prefer to check sizes before ordering. As I always tell my customers "it saves an awkward conversation" Not as easy when you're arriving to fit a supplied carpet mind you :-(
I think you got the carpet round the wrong way mate That's just annoying, don't tell you about the join until your there i had a telenzo carpet come in 3.96 wide today, would of been short in the doorway but lucky for me they had sent 4m in the length instead of the 3m I had ordered! Result! Lucky it was a bedroom so didn't matter which way round it went.
The way to avoid that, only do supply and fit, not fit only. We only do supply and fit but the couple of times ive done it as a favour, its never as said. Same as re-fit. Never touch them. Customer always says yes its just straight forward, its only come up for some wires to be moved, turn up to the job and completely different.
@merit. do you not run piles in the same set direction? i think you will find that 3.96 is not actually short according to the manufacturers cos they say tolerane is 1.25%, i think to allow for shrinkage.
I try to run pile all the same way, pattern carpet doesn't look too good if you don't as well as all the other reasons. Your right it is in the manufactures tolerance so I can't complain. The bedroom was 3 x 3.98 into the doorbar and i explained to the customer how tight it is so We decided to take a gamble as the carpet is expensive. To be fair I've not seen a carpet come in that short apart from furlongs, they are always short in the width. The landing was a flat weave so different carpet.
Lets face it, shrinkage is a load of rubbish, they charge it at 4m x the length and shave a bit off. Not a bad little earner considering how many millions of m2 they sell!
We had a carpet come in at 3.97 so it was short as we needed 3.99 or something, because it was a 25m roll my uncle rang them up and made them credit him back for 0.03cm x 25m lol To be fair if you order 4m you should get 4m
