    Hi All,

I am looking to purchase a ulster or brinton carpet for my staircase and landing. Can I go for a 11mm crumb rubber underlay like axfelt or Kensington? Or would you guys recommend a cloud 9 underlay? Will i need special gripper rods and will i need to double bank them?

Go with Axfelt or a crumb rubber don’t put a Wilton or Axminster on PU, ply the gripper to height, double bank on the width and use a power stretcher on hall and landing and don’t forget anti fray spray.

    thank you for your help.

I have put a axminister in my study and bedroom, this was on top of cloud 9 caviar and crystal. Will this have ruined the carpet?

No it will be fine. Brintons use to recommend cloud 9 contract until they bought out brinfelt. People use to install Axminsters on felt to help hide the sewn seams. Any good underlay will be fine.

No I just find PU’s too soft (Tredaire chromium being an exception) so the carpet doesn’t last quite as long (won’t matter in a bedroom)
