Is this acceptable?

    Thank you all.

This seems to be the consensus, and what I suspected was needed. When I described this to an independent flooring guy he seemed aghast at how to price to lift all the LVT. He said it was one thing to lift a single tile, but an entire room was another thing entirely (obviously). I doubt he'll quote for the job.

I'll keep phoning round, but have you any suggestions on how I can make this job appeal to a flooring person? I suspect there is plenty of work out there doing the usual screeding and laying of LVT tiles to have to bother with ripping up and fixing someone else's work.

(@Paul Hurdsfield I hope you don't mind me jumping onto your post, but I think you will have the same questions/challenges.)

    That's a good question, thanks.
I phoned the flooring shop up and was informed that the Karndean side was a separate business.
I also phoned Karndean customer service and asked if one of their reps could call and give his opinion on whether the floor was installed to their guidelines. They told me that request has to comerom the business.
I then decided to put things in writing which I sent by recorded delivery.
I told them that the shop name is the one listed on karndeans website as a gold partner and there was no indication given that I was dealing with anybody but the the business in question, and if they choose to use a sub contractor the business is the one responsible for the installation. I requested that they contact Karndean and request a site visit to see if their standards had been met, I await their reply. I also mentioned that I would be on holiday for five weeks so they had plenty of time to get the ball rolling, and would look forward to their reply by email while I am away.
    Thanks for all the replies.

If it came to that I would suggest they come and take up the LVT and take it away, give me a full refund, I would then remove the smoothing compound myself back to the old floor, I know how much of a ball ache this would be. Then I would get a new supplier to come and start again from scratch.

Well chaps it's been a long time and i finally have a result well sort of.....:)
Karndean sent an inspector round and his report was quite damning, in spite of this the shop still would not answer any of my letters.

So I went down the small claims court route, there you have two options.

1: Take them to court and argue it out with them, if they turn up.

2: Online, fill in a form giving all your evidence, timeline, letters, photos etc, then they decide whether it needs a hearing or they can deal with it without a hearing, this is the cheapest option, £70 up front, this is what i chose, that was four weeks ago.

I claimed a full refund of £795 plus £500 to cover the cost of returning my floor to its original condition, then i could start again.

I heard nothing until yesterday when a cheque for £795 landed on the doormat, no letter, nothing just the cheque from the retailer not the subby. i suppose they were told to refund me what i had spent and forget about it, and that's what i intend to do :)

The floor looks fine and if i didn't tell you about it you wouldn't know until you sat down for dinner and felt like you were on a rocking chair.

So in summary i've got a £795 floor for £70, i think i can live with that for now.

I hope the cheque doesn't bounce

If anyone want to know who the retailer and his subby is pm me, i don't think it's fair to name and shame, the internet is already full of keyboard warriors.

Thanks but y'know it's not really the result i wanted, all i wanted was a smooth flat floor and i haven't got that, I wanted him to come back and put his b@lls up right but he wouldn't, thats why he got screwed to teach him a lesson.
    Overall it looks ok.

But when you look closely at the chair legs.

That's what i know have to put up with! to get someone in to take that up how on earth would they price it? they'd probably want to do it on a daywork rate, , lifting the LVT is easy, but getting the smoothing compound up without damaging the asphalt subfloor would be a nightmare.
I worked as a Shopfitting Joiner in the high quality finishing industry all my working life. Twenty years ago I laid an Amtico floor in my last house, the same asphalt base, I latex screeded it, then laid the amtico, even if i do say it myself i did a pretty good job of it, but now i'm pushing seventy i didn't fancy a week on my knees so i got a professional in, what a mistake that was :(
Here is my attempt. DSCF0032 - Copy.JPG at flooring.

Thank you so much for keeping us updated. It is so nice to see that I am not the only one with this exact problem (looks fine a distance, but is actually not to SR1 standards). Your story gives us the confidence to move forward with small claims court.

Why did you settle for only £795, and not £795 + £500?

I wish your knees were better - I'd be happy for you to lay our floor :)

Sorry this doesn't look good and it wasn't a dig at the good professionals on here.
As you all know in any trade that requires a high level of skill and care there will always be a few chancers who get the majority a bad name.
