Stairs and landing carpet suggestions

Hi, I am looking to have a new stairs and landing carpet, a 80/20 wool mix in a neutral colour, in a good weight.
My local shop has priced up the Brintons Pure Living coastal cord at £78 a sqm, but I have decided that's it's a lovely carpet, but only 40oz and being a stripe it will go out of fashion.
What would you guys suggest? In a 60oz weight?

 

Brintons bell twist is very hard wearing.
Victoria sisal weave if you like the loop pile.

 

Thanks, the bell twist looks good I don't fancy a loop carpet as I have cats and dogs!

 

Don't go with wool then if you have animals for me wool is a no no look at primo ultra or if you really need wool westex any day of the week, plus you want 50 oz as a 60 has the same density but with a longer pile which shows up flattening more

I'd look at starting with ultima range the penultima is too lightweight and the major is a longer pile but with the same density, the 1/10th gauge are nice and short and will wear better over time

 

Thanks, they have so many colours! I will be spoilt for choice. Which would you say out of the 1/10th gauge would be the most suitable?

 

Any but the heaviest is the gold bit expensive though just make sure you use a good crumb felt underlay and quality gripper with this kind of carpet if you want it to last and retain its appearance for years to come, they do 120 standard colours and will dye any colour you want as long as its minimum 40m2 half roll or 80m2 full roll half roll costs a little more a full roll they don't charge any extra. They are a brilliant company with great products never had any real issues with them and anything which was founded was sorted incredibly quickly. Glad I could help but you really need to get this from a very good reputable independent along with all the ancils and don't sub out the fitting

 

Yes, will do. The only problem is that they don't seem to have any suppliers where I am.... I am in Guernsey, Channel Islands.

 

I went to look at the carpets at a local independent that stocks the Westex, but I was about 10 mins late, they had closed for day
It turns out Carpetright here will order in as well and they have given me a price and the guy was helpful with the the amount of carpet I will require and he is going to order a couple of samples for me...
I like the Talisman and the Fontaine in Aloe, I think I prefer the Fontaine as a longer pile and a bit more squishy. The Fontaine was coming out at £45 a sqm.

 

Price isn't bad, really good carpet and the customer service from westex is second to none too, there are some decent carpetrights around but 90% are managed poorly with little knowledge of fitting (hence they have bad fitters) but if your local is decent with a good reputation then they're no problem. All westex carpets retain their shape incredibly well although the 1/10th gauge are better at it, get your own underlay and gripper though theirs is horrendous and expensive you want golden gripper and get wood or concrete to suit don't get dual no purpose and a good heavy crumb felt underlay is the best for a quality carpet although cloud 9 contract is a good substitute

Kensington deluxe is a decent crumb felt or cloud 9 contract/super contract can't go wrong with these 3 if the floor is good underneath treadmore is horrid to work with but wears really well and gives great support

 

The independent has come back to me with prices and he is coming out at £63 a sqm. I was really hoping he was going to be roughly the same price as Carpetright, the search for a carpet will have to continue....

 

I have managed to source a end of roll in Westex Talisman and am looking to ask a couple of carpet fitters round for quotes/ fitting opinions. Before I get them round it would be good if you guys could advise me the best way for fitting carpets on stairs. In my Victorian cottage on one side of the stairs I have the wall with wooden skirting board on the other side I have the wooden spindles. I would like to carpet to butt up to the skirting and to the edge of the spindles. What sort of things should I listen out for?
A friend of mine, similar aged house with the same stair set up has had new carpet fitted by a local independent and where the carpet is butted up to the spindles they have used carpet tacks so the carpet has little dimples along that edge, I am thinking that can't be right.

You could have the edge bound on some stairs or glue the turn so you don't have to use pins
